Navigator Schools has announced Kevin Sved will be the chief executive officer of its Hollister and Gilroy charter schools, according to a press release from the group.
Navigator Schools operates two charter sites, Hollister Prep and Gilroy Prep. The group has made headlines over the years for its alternative teaching methods and the high academic performance of its students.
“We are thrilled to bring in a leader with a lifelong commitment to educating and believing in all kids,” said Brett Mosher, the chair of the Navigator Schools’ board of directors, in a letter to staff members and parents, according to the press release.
Sved will start his new position June 1, according to the press release. He takes a role formerly held by James Dent, a co-founder of Navigator Schools who stepped down from the executive position in January. Dent is now the group’s chief academic officer.
Sved started his career as a teacher and led one of the earliest charter school networks in Los Angeles, according to a press release. He has worked as a consultant, the CEO of Stanford New Schools, an interim superintendent for the City of Millbrae’s Recreation Department and founder of The Accelerated School in Los Angeles, according to his Linkedin profile.
The Navigator Schools board used Edgility Consulting, an executive search firm, to find a replacement. The search process involved evaluating hundreds of potential candidates and dozens of reference interviews in addition to several campus visits and “town hall type meetings,” according to the press release.
