HOLLISTER

California Highway Patrol Officers from Hollister, Gilroy and Los Banos joined to issue 119 citations on Oct. 17 in four hours on Highway 101 near Rocks Road.

“The goal is to reduce the fatality and major injury picture,” said Officer Chris Armstrong of the CHP. “If we can keep people driving at the limit, while properly restrained and unimpaired, the risk of injury or death is greatly reduced.”

Hollister and Gilroy CHP also assisted San Jose units on Oct. 8 at the intersection of Highways 101 and 85 where 120 citations were issued in four hours.

“When we get a lot of complaints, or there is an area with a lot of high-speed and a high-collision rate, we get assistance to increase these crackdowns,” said Armstrong, who added that these enforcement activities will continue. “The captain has come up with this to improve safety and reduce fatalities and major injury crashes, and the program is definitely ongoing.”

Armstrong could not confirm that Highway 25 would be the subject of one of the “crackdowns,” but conceded that it would be a natural place for one to occur.
