Royce W. McFadden, 62, worked for the San Benito County
Sheriff’s Office for many years and more recently owned a private
investigations business.
A former county undersheriff was one of two people killed Saturday in a Colorado vehicle accident.
The Colorado State Patrol says driver fatigue may have contributed to a rollover crash of an SUV that killed two and sent another to the hospital with serious injuries.
The state patrol says 65-year-old Verna File of San Jose and 62-year-old Royce W. McFadden of Riverbank, who owns Royce McFadden Investigations in Hollister, died at the scene. McFadden worked for the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office for many years and served as undersheriff under former Sheriff Robert Scattini.
Fifty-eight-year-old Vickie McFadden of Riverbank survived and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The accident happened around 5:45 p.m. Saturday as 68-year-old William File Jr. of San Jose was driving on westbound Interstate 70, about 5 miles east of Limon.
Troopers say File drifted into the center median, then oversteered, causing the vehicle to leave the road and roll 2-1⁄2 times. He was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
