Lorraine C. Freitas passed away at her home in Hollister, Tuesday morning at the age of 79. She was born in Hollister and lived here all her life. She attended local schools and graduated from San Jose State College of Nursing and trained at San Francisco and Santa Monica hospitals. She was a registered nurse, a homemaker and a partner in Freitas Orchards with her husband, Bernie, whom she married, May 26, 1957. Lorraine had worked for Dr. Norman Currie as well as Dr. Robert Quinn in Hollister and finished her career with Dr. Barton and Dr. Joyce in Gilroy.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Y.L.I., I.C.F. and was a 4-H leader. She also had worked at the San Benito County Fair and as a voting booth person for elections. Lorraine was a member of the Ladies Wednesday Morning Bowling League at Hollister Lanes. She enjoyed going on various bus trips with her friends to horse races, shopping and Lake Tahoe. Lorraine was a true family person who enjoyed gatherings and never forgot to honor a birthday. Lorraine was an avid fan of her daughters’ sporting events and would drive great distances to cheer them on. She was a great admirer of Joe Montana. She enjoyed gardening, pets and spending time in Soquel.

Lorraine was the daughter of the late Joseph Corotto who was a long time orchardist in the Southside area and the late Margarita Chiesa Corotto. She is survived by her husband, Bernie Freitas, her children, Diane Freitas and Renee Finch, Donna and Dave Oelschlegal, grandsons, Matt and Andrew Oelschlegal, sister-in-law, Lillian “Billie” Corotto (late brother, Gene), nephew, Jim Corotto, nieces, Jeannie Matthews, Joyce Presser, Joanne Neubauer, Marta Denice, Danette Perrien and Vickie Hammond.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 7th, 2009, from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home.

Friends may gather on Tuesday morning at 9:30 A.M. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 1200 Fairview Rd., Hollister, to attend a funeral Mass commencing at 10 A.M. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends are invited to attend a reception following the services at Paine’s Restaurant, 421 East Street, Hollister.
