the age of 81 at the Watsonville Community Hospital after a long
illness.

Hollister resident Louis I. Mendoza died Thursday, July 3, at the age of 81 at the Watsonville Community Hospital after a long illness.

Mendoza had been a dialysis patient for nine years. Originally from Texas, he lived in Watsonville for 50 years before moving to Hollister in 1996. Mendoza was a truck driver for 40 years. He belonged to the Teamster’s Union and was a former member of St. Patrick’s Church. An accomplished saxophonist, he played with various musical groups in Watsonville for many years.

He is survived by wife Teresa Mendoza of Hollister; daughters Mary Ramirez and Barbara Zavala, both of Watsonville; sons Charlie Mendoza of Hollister and Louis Mendoza Jr. of San Jose; and sisters Nellie Tarazon of Salinas, Margaret Castro of Hollister and Vicky Avila of Fresno. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

The rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel in Watsonville. A Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Watsonville, followed by burial at Watsonville Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit at Mehl’s on Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m.
