Karen Garnett

Artist Karen Garnett makes it a point to paint her landscapes while outdoors.
Though born in Bexar County, Texas and raised in Pennsylvania, she finds endless subject matter in the majestic scenery of the California landscape.
Most of Garnett’s paintings are done onsite, which allows her to “absorb the small details that photographs fail to depict, but that do so much to capture the sense of place.”
Garnett chooses to paint on gessoed panels using a palette knife. To ensure she captures a spontaneous and highly textured image, she works quickly and finishes the first underpainting in one sitting.
A resident of Morgan Hill, Garnett’s art training includes Carnegie Museum and Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Penn. She received a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State and a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
When not painting, she is a technical writer for a graphics IP company.
