Copper theft

Hollister police on Monday morning arrested a man suspected of stealing copper wire from the Pacific Gas & Electric facility in Seventh Street.

Police are recommending commercial burglary and trespassing charges against James R. McKuin, 35. At about 4:50 a.m., officers were alerted to movement within the PG&E property. They arrived and found the utility’s property on the sidewalk with indications of copper wire theft, according to a statement from police.

Police surrounded the city block and found the man inside a fenced area, according to police.

McKuin is listed as a transient in the Hollister area. Police are investigating whether he might be connected to other, recent copper wire thefts.

Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Rosie Betanio at (831) 636-4330 or WeTIP anonymously at 800-78-CRIME, which may include a reward of up to $1,000.
