Alcohol and speed contributed to a one-vehicle accident on Shore Road that pinned the driver of the motorcycle under his Harley Davidson on Thursday evening.

Hollister resident Arturo Galvez, 33, was traveling east on Shore Road, just east of Lake Road, when he drove his 1998 Harley Davidson Road King into a ditch around 6:30 p.m., causing moderate injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Upon failing to negotiate a curve properly, he was partially ejected off the motorcycle and then pinned underneath it until emergency personnel arrived, said CHP Officer Terry Mayes.

The CHP determined Galvez’s blood alcohol level was .15 after emergency personnel lifted the motorcycle off of him, Mayes said.

“(That level) usually makes those S curves hard to negotiate on two wheels,” she said.

Galvez was treated at the scene for body trauma and then air-lifted by Cal-Star to San Jose Medical Center, according to the report.

Shore Road was shut down for approximately 20 minutes to allow for medical treatment and the opportunity for Cal-Star to land in an adjacent field, according to the report.

Galvez, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was arrested for driving under the influence and then released to the hospital’s custody for further medical assistance, Mayes said.
