A Hollister man was shot in the shoulder while driving on Union Road near the San Benito High School football stadium last night.

San Benito County Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff Pat Turturicci said the victim was driving east on Union Road from San Benito Street when he heard “popping” sounds similar to gunshots. The victim said he then noticed a white Honda following his car.

The victim said he was overtaken by the Honda then heard several more “pops” and noticed he had been shot in his right shoulder. He also said he did not know the shooter’s identity.

Authorities described the suspected shooter as a teenage Hispanic male wearing a hooded sweatshirt and driving a white 4-door Honda sedan.

The victim was flown by helicopter to a Bay Area hospital where he recovered from his wound and since has been released, Turturicci said.

Turturicci said he does not know if the shooting was gang related and that deputies are interviewing witnesses and residents in the area to determine if anyone knows who the shooter might be. Turturicci said anybody with information should call Sgt. Tom Keylon at the sheriff’s office at 636-4080.
