Manuel J. Escover passed away after a brief illness on January 16, 2008. Mr. Escover is the son of the late Manuel F. and Lenora Escover, and brother of the deceased Marie Buckner and Gloria Escover. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Escover, and sons Matthew Escover and Steven Escover. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins in the Santa Clara Valley, San Benito County, and the Central Valley.
Mr. Escover was born in Los Gatos, California on November 25, 1925. He was raised and attended local schools in Los Gatos. He was member of the local FFA chapter at Los Gatos High School. He was active in prune, apricot, and walnut farming as well as cattle ranching from 1942 until 1962. From 1962 until his passing, he was also active as an orchardist and businessman in San Benito County. He was innovative in his business, experimenting with many different orchard crops, crop mechanization, and direct product sales. He introduced one of the first apple orchards in the Hollister area and had a regional dried fruit business.
Manuel was known for his kindness, quick wit, and warm sense of humor by his friends and family. He enjoyed conversation with his clients and formed many life long friends through his business. Religious by nature, he attended weekly Mass at Immaculate Conception Church.
The family requests any memorials or donations be directed to Immaculate Conception Parish in Tres Pinos c/o the funeral home chapel.
Visitation will be held at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until 8P.M. with the Recitation Of The Rosary beginning at 7 P.M.
Family and friends will leave the mortuary on Wednesday morning at 10:30 A.M. to attend the Mass Of The Resurrection beginning at 11 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church 7290 Airline Hwy, Tres Pinos, CA
