Maria Costa died Friday, June 13, at the Lady of Fatima Villa in Saratoga. She was 98.
A native of Schio, Vincenza, Italy, she lived in San Benito County from 1946 to 1956 and was a member of Sacred Heart Church during those years. She was also a member of Senior Citizens Center in San Jose.
While living in Italy, Mrs. Costa worked as a secretary in her hometown’s city hall. After moving to America she concentrated on being a homemaker and respected member of the community.
She was preceded in death by her late husband Pietro Costa, a metropolitan opera singer in New York for 20 years before they moved to San Benito County.
She is survived by her daughter Catherine Bullock of Saratoga and her son-in-law Michael, a retired pediatrician.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews both in Italy and the United States.
Friends may visit at the Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A Mass will be offered Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at 1100 Hillcrest Road. Entombment will follow.
Contributions are preferred to the Cupertino Senior Day Services at 20920 McClellan Road.
