Maria Herrera passed away peacefully at William and Inez Mabie Skilled Nursing Facility in Hollister. Maria was born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Herrera who died Aug. 19, 2006. She is survived by her sons, George and Sam Flores, Renato and Oscar Herrera and daughters, Maria Magdalena and Rosario Barrientos. She is also survived by sisters, Julieta and Norma Cabrera, Caridad and Esperanza Dorado, Aida Ruiz, Estela Espinoza and Isabel Gomez. Francisco, Jaime and Jose Luis are surviving brothers.

Maria was an active member of El Grupo de Oracion and the Cursillos de Cristiandad. She was a very righteous and devoted Catholic with a very strong faith in God. She was a devoted working housewife. She worked in the fields and marched with the UFW during the 70’s. She worked for the Casillas Brothers and for Almaden Vineyards for a good portion of her life. She was loved and equally admired by many of her friends and family. Maria leaves behind a legacy of hard work, deep devotion and compassion. She was a role model for all her family. Maria Herrera may you rest in peace.

Friends can pay their respects on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Rosary will be Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM at the funeral home chapel. The Mass will be on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church. Friends can gather at the funeral home for a procession to the church at 9:30 AM.

Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery.
