Martha was born May 12th, 1915, in Fairmead, California. Her parents were John and Mary Lichti. She was the youngest of nine children and is survived by one sister, Marie Lichti White, age 101. Martha will join Clair, her husband of sixty-eight years, who preceded her in death in 2003. Her four children; Donald, Richard, Mary Jean and Harry James will miss her dearly. She also leaves eleven devoted grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She was a devout Christian wife and mother and was active in church work in Sanger, Morgan Hill, Gilroy, California, and the Grants Pass and Brookings areas of Oregon for most of her life. Many adults reading this may remember her driving them to school on the buses she drove for the San Martin/Morgan Hill Unified School District for more than 20 years. She retired in 1978 to move to Oregon.
Martha was kind to each of us, and bettered our lot in this often challenging world. A paraphrased quotation from another eulogy attempts to describe her significance to those she leaves behind:
“Martha need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what she was in life. She should be remembered simply as a good and decent woman, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it. Those of us who loved her and who take her to her rest, pray that what she was to us and what she wished for others will some day come to pass for all the world.”
Thank You Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma Martha, from all of your family. We will always hold you in our hearts, picturing you crocheting, completing crossword puzzles, baking, cleaning, talking, laughing and loving. The joy you brought this world will live on in each of us who were lucky enough to have been privledged to love you.
Services to be held at Habing Family Funeral Home on Friday, October 12th, at 1:00 P.M.. Donations can be sent to the hospice organization in your local area.
