Mary E. Wipfler died April 1 at Mabie Northside Skilled Nursing Facility.
Mary was born in San Francisco on April 8, 1922. She grew up on a fruit orchard near Hollister and attended local schools. She graduated from Hollywood High School before entering UC Berkeley.
She was later a student at Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, Merced College and Stanislaus State University.
Her affiliations included charter membership in the Parents Assn. for Retarded Children and Adults of San Mateo County, Parent-Teachers Assn. of San Carlos High School, Sonora Community Hospital Auxiliary, and Tuolumne County Schools Trustee for Big Oak Flat-Groveland District.
Other affiliations include San Carlos 4-H project leadership, Girl Scout troop leadership, member of Bolado Park Women’s Golf Club and Ridgemark Women’s Golf Club.
Mary was preceded in death by husbands, L.A. “Wip” Wipfler and Enos N. Silva; daughter Mary Anne; sister Jean Elliott and brother George Van Heusen. She is survived by her sons Stephen of Roseville, Richard of Menlo Park and Chip of Clovis; as well as daughters Patricia of Palo Alto and Katharine of Jackson Hole, Wyo. and their respective spouses and companions; also surviving are sister, Helen Van Heusen of Santa Rosa; brother Haven Van Heusen of Lake Shastina; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, April 6 at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. Rev. Ed Fitz Henry of Mission San Juan Bautista will officiate.
Cremation will be followed by interment at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.
