Mary S. Galli died Sunday, Nov. 16 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. She was 87.
She was born in Aitkin Count, Minn., and came to San Benito County in 1945 after World War II.
She was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Women’s Corps.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and was active as a greeter for many years. She was also a member of the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion, an associate member of the Hollister Elk’s Lodge, B.P.O.E. No. 1436, Bolado Park Golf Club and a member of both the 18 and nine Holers.
She is a former social services worker for the San Benito County Welfare Department and worked for the state Veteran’s Service Office in San Benito County as an assistant Veterans Service Officer.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dan Galli, brother-in-laws Jack Maloney and Richard Galli and sister-in-law Betty Lou Maloney.
She is survived by her nieces Jeanne Scheeler of Sacramento, Jacklyn Thomas of Hollister, and Felicia Andrade of Hollister; nephews Bill McCardle of Washington, Guido Galli of San Rafael and Dennie Hagins of Gilroy. She was the sister-in-law of Barbara and Jack Galli of Hollister, Bill and Elma Mae Barber of Hollister, and Edna Galli of Alabama. She is also survived by many additional nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be offered at the Mausoleum Chapel in Calvary Cemetery on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m.
Military rites will be offered by the Hollister VFW Post 9242 following the services.
Contributions may be made to the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation or St. Benedict Catholic Church.
Funeral arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory of Hollister
