Former Hollister resident Mary Snavely died in Salinas on Thursday, Dec. 25. She was 97.

She was born Dec. 24, 1906 in Pittsburg, Calif. She lived in Monterey County for four years and in Hollister for 64 years.

She was a business owner/operator in Hollister from the late 1930s to the early 1960s. Her businesses included The Creamery, Hollister Bowl, The King & I, Greg’s Family Billiard Room and she was a partner in Hollister Lanes Bowling Alley.

She is survived by her brother Frank Mercurio of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; sister Jane Jordan of Oakland; grandchildren Karyn Bokariza of Corralitos, Calif., Tod Wootton of Santa Clara, Greg Wootton of Sammamish, Wash., Gail Garcia of Prunedale, and Mary Clark of Watsonville; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Snavely and son Eugene Wootton.

Funeral services will be held at Santa Rosalta Chapel, San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey on Friday, Jan. 2 at 9 a.m.
