He completed high school in Mississippi and attended college in Louisana and lived in San Benito County in California for the past year. He worked in the transportation industry and worked for Red Ball, Mayflower, Allied, Viking, Skyway, Yellow Freight and Profreight.com. He started driving trucks in New Orleans as a teenager and stayed in the shipping industry working his way up to the top in management positions.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Lingenfelter of Hollister; his children, Melburn Barry Lingenfelter of Miss., Rhonda Lea Lingenfelter Dyess of Miss., Shari Lanell Parker of Houston, Texas, Stanley Robert Lingenfelter of Los Angeles, Preston Scott Lingenfelter and his wife, Lelia, of Hollister, and Melburn Hugh Lingenfelter Jr and his wife, Aimee, of San Juan Bautista, siblings, Alva and Edward Reed of Crossville, Tenn., Willard Lingenfelter of Houston, Texas, Jerrie and Donald Reed of Nesbit, Miss., Ralph and Andrea Lingenfelter of Milton, Fla. and Alvin Brane and Linsey Lingenfelter of La Grange, Ga.; and his grandchildren, Jabriel Levi Grisell Lingenfelter, Courtney Nichole Dyess, William Andrew Michael Eversole, Violet Leona Lingenfelter, Melburn Hugh Lingenfelter III and Dustin Dean Lingenfelter.

A Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 4 at noon at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Hollister. Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Hollister. Friends can pay their respects on Friday morning from 9am until 11:30 at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister.
