A viewing will be held at Habing Family Funeral Home 129 4th St., Gilroy on Monday, July 21, 2014, from 4:00-7:00 P.M., with vigil beginning at 7:00 P.M.  Michael Joseph Matecki, 71, of Gilroy, CA passed away July 15, 2014.
 He was born in Nashville, IL on September 20, 1942 to parents John and Corneila (Stern) Matecki. He graduated from Nashville Community High School, served in the US Air Force for four years and received an AA Degree in Quality Assurance from De Anza Community College.
 Mike worked over 36 years in the aerospace industry at Loral Space Systems, and was the senior quality control manager on the GOES Weather Satellites that provide many of the weather pictures which appear on the nightly news.
 In his retirement, Mike enjoyed working as a handyman and a server at a winery, and he raised pygmy goats and miniature horses on his farm in Lower Lake, CA. He spent some of his most enjoyable moments in Bucerias, MX, with his best friend twin ex-brother-in-law Pete Tuttle, where life slowed down and he had time to breath.
 Mike is survived by his daughter Kimberly McLean and her husband Bill, son-in-law Robert Munoz, special friend Betty Kinkel and her two sons Scott and Kyle, ex-wife and friend Irene Matecki, and his sister Connie Dressler and her husband John. Mike also had nine grandchildren.
 He is preceded in death by his daughter Carrie Munoz, parents, grandparents and his younger brother Gerald Matecki.
