Michael Neal Cottrell was brought into this world on December 16, 1957 in Chester, CA and was prematurely taken from it on April 12, 2012 in Fremont, CA. He was 54.

While bravely battling his illness for the past several years, it was a rare occasion that Michael could be found with a frown on his face or grief in his heart. Michael was a gentle soul who appreciated the simple things in life; he liked to cook and he loved to eat. He also enjoyed gardening, his dogs (Ginger and Oreo), socializing with everyone, and spending time with Stacie and his family and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Janet Cottrell. He is survived by his partner of more than 33 years, Stacie K. Smith of Newark, his sister Laurie Miguel (David) of Hollister and brother Jerry Clarke of Roseville. Michael also had two nieces, a nephew, and a great niece, all of whom will miss his bright eyes, big smile, and caring personality.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the National Kidney Foundation in Michael’s name.
