Editor,

Steve Thomas wrote a letter to the editor on Feb. 13 where he made derogatory remarks about the Hollister police captain. Thomas claims to be a “biker,” and brags about his income and education. He continues on and brags that he owns two Harleys at $25,000 each. Wow, you are the man! A real biker tough guy.

And Thomas continued by writing that Harleys are not cheap (which he already mentioned, but brags again) and that “dirtbags” don’t own them except for the “one percenters.” How nice for you to refer to “one percenters” as “dirtbags.” You must be a real tough “biker” to refer to the “one percenters” as “dirtbags.” Oh, but that was behind the safety of your computer.

I too, was at the 2005 Hollister Rally and was on hand when the Hells Angels and Mongols exchanged threats. Had it not been for the police presence, there would have been another incident like Laughlin, but probably much worse.

Mr. Thomas, the cops at the rally allow “bikers” like you to walk around and enjoy your freedoms at events like the Hollister rally. But even they could not have prevented you from needing a new dental plan if you would have referred to a “one percenter” as a “dirtbag” in person. Saying such would probably further your “education” that you brag about. Oh, but if you do call a “one percenter” a “dirtbag,” make sure the cops are not in the donut shop so that they can come and save you.

Instead of directing your anger towards the cops, you should direct your hostility towards the “dirtbags” you emulate. Their actions are creating the problems for the Hollister Rally.

But with all the money you brag that you make, why don’t you and some of your other rich “biker” buddies pool your money together and throw your own party, and it won’t cost the taxpayers a dime.
