Hollister – A crash at one of the county’s most dangerous intersections sent one woman to the hospital with face lacerations, and left another with shoulder pain Tuesday morning.
At 7:40am, a 17-year-old woman driving a 2004 Ford Mustang came to the stop sign at Sunnyslope Road and prepared to make a left turn northbound onto Fairview Road. When she made the turn, she didn’t see the oncoming 1987 Nissan Maxima heading southbound at 60 mph. The two cars collided with the Maxima hitting the driver’s side door of the Mustang.
“Of all the hot spots in town, that area seems to be the worst during certain times of the day,” said Officer Terry Mayes of the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Mustang was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital with a cut on her face, and later released, and the driver of the Maxima, Hollister resident Rosa Anaya Gonzalez, reported shoulder pain, but refused to be taken to the hospital.
This is the fourth accident at the intersection in the past year, according to the CHP, and one in April was fatal.
Mayes said the two women involved in this accident are lucky to be walking away from the crash. Traffic lights have been installed at the intersection, but haven’t been turned on yet.
