Editor,
John Yewell’s mom, (“My mom, not Cindy Sheehan, is Bush’s biggest problem,”) has more company than she may imagine.
The tempo of this country is changing fast. Many of us are past being fed up over our faith being questioned because we disagree with the president or his staff or a policy. Check out the mainstream Christian sites or organizations (National Council Of Churches) is one. It reflects the opinions of the majority. The recent statements by Pat Robertson show just how far from the path the fundamentalists have gone.
It is hard to condemn a Moslem cleric calling for the death of our president, when our clerics call for the death of a Christian leader in South America.
Many of us remember that to attack a nation you are not at war with was called “a day which will live in infamy.” Look at Iraq, and wonder what changed here.
The news and the commission that examined the 9-11 attacks all agree, the attackers were all Saudis, with the one Jordanian exception. So where is the damage from the attack on America from the super power – Afghanistan? I must have missed the Iraqi Army as their tanks moved through the American defenses. But there we are, and we were told it was all about 9-11.
The administration has broken faith with the men and women serving in our armed forces and extended, in some cases for years, the time they agreed to serve. They now can’t recruit enough people, no matter the bribes offered, because we have grown smart enough to see just how fast any agreement can be voided and taken from them. People don’t like to make deals with liars. It is actually just that simple. Your mother has a lot of company.
We hide the homeward-bound remains of our servicemen, making it unlawful to photograph and show their flag-draped coffins as they arrive. They now seem to be something to hide, to be ashamed of. And yes more mothers join yours.
This country was attacked. But the most damage to our system, our rights, our laws and our pride has been caused by men of infinite greed, and your mother has more company as more and more realize just how badly we are being led.
The old saying is true, what goes around, comes around. It can take time, but it does happen. If I were Bush, I would worry because mothers like myself, and like yours, once betrayed and angered, do not forget. We may forgive, but we do not forget.
