Monroe Leo Gallegos died of natural causes Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003. He was 60.

He was born in Roswell, N.M. on Oct. 24, 1943. He lived most of his 60 years in California, moving to Gilroy in 1975 where he was a Safeway store manager. He worked for Safeway for about 22 years, then he moved to Idaho and was transferred to Sparks, Nev., for Lowes Home Stores. He last worked for Lowes in Gilroy as a zone manager.

He is survived by his ex-spouse Connie Gallegos; mother Erminia Gallegos; children Michael and his wife Laurie Hanna Gallegos of Gilroy, Joseph and his wife Maria Muro Gallegos of Gilroy, David and his wife Sheileen Osbourne Gallegos of Redding and his daughter Theresa Gallegos of Gilroy. Monroe is the grandfather of Owen, Karina, Joseph, Matthew, Rachel, Vanessa, Claudia, Tatum and Ashton. He is the brother of Milo and Billy Gallegos of Alamogordo, N.M., Olivia and her husband Darrel Moorehead of Ruidoso, N.M., MaryLou and her husband Max Bringhurst of Alamogordo, N.M., Lucy and husband Paul Garcia of San Antonio, Texas and Gloria Gallegos of Santa Barbara.

He was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Ramos and his father Severo M. Gallegos.

A vigil was held Monday, Dec. 8, 2003 at 7 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Gilroy.
