Details are set for the Feb. 28 groundbreaking for the new San Benito County Courthouse.
The following is an announcement from the Administrative Office of the Courts:
“The Superior Court of San Benito County will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new courthouse that will be located in downtown Hollister on the old Fremont School parcel bounded by the streets Fourth, West, Third, and Monterey. The public is invited to attend the ceremony on Monday, February 28, 2011.
At 1:30 pm, the ceremony will begin at the Board of Supervisors chambers, featuring introductions, short remarks and a visual presentation. The new Chief Justice of California, Tani Cantil-Sakauye, is scheduled to attend the ceremony, as is William C. Vickrey, Administrative Director of the Courts and Ronald G. Overholt, Chief Deputy Director.
At 2:00 pm the ceremony will move from the chambers to the construction site across the street for the ceremonial groundbreaking.
The ceremony is a significant project milestone marking the completion of the design phase and the start of the bidding phase. The new courthouse will encompass 41,500 square feet and will feature 3 courtrooms and one jury assembly room that can also function as a hearing room. The project, scheduled for completion in fall 2012, is also designed to provide at least 80 on-site parking slots.
