Dear Editor:

Thank you for your recent article on Vision San Benito. We’d like to give your readers some background, and provide additional information about what the community can expect from the Vision San Benito process.

After the March 2004 election, many in the community felt the need for a dialog to determine a shared vision for the future of San Benito County. Representatives from a group previously known as “the consensus group” along with the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce and the San Benito Business Council came together with the idea of developing a community forum that would assist in creating and articulating this vision. In late April this temporary administrative committee agreed to develop a process to assist in the establishment of a formal Advisory Committee for Vision San Benito. This Advisory Committee will be the group that determines the structure and nature of the visioning process.

On July 14 and July 28th the community is invited to join in open meetings to form the Advisory Committee for the Vision San Benito program. Gavilan College will assist by providing facilities and personnel to facilitate the first meetings. While Gavilan College will facilitate this part of the process, the Vision San Benito program is based in the community, and will be driven and directed by the residents of San Benito County.

The objective of the first two meetings is to identify organizations, groups, associations, and interest areas that should be represented on the Advisory Committee. Please join us on July 14 and July 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Gavilan College site in the Brigg’s Building. If you would like more information, or will require an accommodation to participate, please call (408) 848-4724.
