Joshua Rodriguez

Interim Hollister Fire Department Chief Bill Garringer said he did not see a helmet at the scene of Monday’s fatality on Memorial Drive.
“Not that I saw,” he told the Free Lance on Tuesday afternoon.
Joshua Rodriguez, 11, was killed Monday afternoon when a county transit bus struck his bicycle on Memorial Drive at Verdun Avenue.
Rodriguez had gone across the street to get a drink at McDonald’s and was going back to his favorite place, the skate park, “when it happened,” said his mother, Jahzeel Ortega. He had a helmet, “but wasn’t wearing it at the time that it happened,” she believed.
The police investigation is still in progress, Ortega said.
