Cheryl L. Busch today pleaded not guilty to homicide for the suspected killing of her 19-month-old daughter Wednesday at their family’s home off Shore Road.

Busch, 39, made the plea during the arraignment hearing at the San Benito County Courthouse, and visiting Judge Thomas Breen set bail at $1 million.

Prosecutors initially recommended disallowing bail, but defense attorney Greg LaForge pointed out that because it’s not a capital offense case, there must be a bail amount.

The judge set the next preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. Dec. 10.

Busch is accused of shooting and killing her 19-month-old daughter with a .357 Magnum, while authorities have not said whether investigators have figured out what led to the tragedy.
