the 9 a.m. ceremony at the City Hall Council Chambers and a
welcoming reception afterward. Miller, 45, will start work

Other officials have expressed optimism about Miller’s official undertaking of the police leadership role. Council-man Tony LoBue said he’ll attend the ceremony to show support for the city and Police Department.
“I wish the best for the Police Depart-ment and their morale in future years with the new police chief, and I hope things work out,” he said.
The five-year tenure of Bill Pierpoint was reportedly tarnished by growing morale problems with the department, especially during the later years. In hiring Pierpoint’s successor, ultimately Miller, city officials emphasized obtaining a chief who is ready to alleviate those issues.
Miller’s entrance into the chief role signals the exit for interim Chief Larry Todd, who has overseen the force since April. Todd will reportedly stay until Wednesday to ease the transition for Miller.
“He will no doubt continue the positive trend that interim Chief Larry Todd initiated during his six months with the City,” City Manager Dale Shaddox said.
