Retired teachers support younger generations

The San Benito County Retired Teachers’ Association provided six grants to local teachers on Dec. 13 of $50 to spend in their classrooms. The grants were given by Local Division 26.

El Rancho owners ‘testing waters’ for possible development

There is renewed interest from property owners and a developer to possibly build thousands of homes on the El Rancho San Benito land where DMB proposed the 6,800-unit community before departing nearly three years ago.

Local photographer’s work on display

The current exhibit in the Gilroy City Hall Gallery is by photographer Rachelle Lee. An Idaho native who relocated to Gilroy with her husband in 2004, she was quick to tell me that she loves Gilroy for its small town feeling, the lovely views and most of all the friendly people. The exhibit featuring portraits of children will be on view through March and April.

Native tribe wins accolades at Pinnacles

The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band has received national recognition for its work at Pinnacles National Park in collaborating with the Universities of California, Santa Cruz and Berkeley to conduct two research projects that took an innovative approach to habitat restoration. The projects integrated traditional Native American land management practices with contemporary techniques to restore and protect the natural and cultural processes in the unique California grassland system.

BLM to commemorate trailhead at Ft. Ord

The Bureau of Land Management will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for the new Badger Hills Trailhead at Fort Ord National Monument.

Adopt Krystal

Krystal is a 7-year-old cat who is sweet, loves to be pet and would make a great lap cat. She would be best with older cats and adults. Man in Sunday’s highway crash died of natural causes

Santa Clara resident Anthony Tamayo, 71, died around 1:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon when the 2013 Chrysler 300 he was driving ran off the highway near Burnette Avenue, just north of Cochrane Road on U.S. 101 in Morgan Hill.
