Pinnacles plan would focus on linking people, resources

Pinnacles National Monument is accepting public comments on a draft general management plan that is set to guide its vision for the next 15 to 20 years.

Gilroy Prep School leaders hopeful for Hollister expansion

Two years after Gilroy Prep School opened its doors and made big waves for receiving the highest Academic Performing Index Score in the district’s history, a pivotal moment is approaching Tuesday as charter school leaders cross their fingers and hope to receive the stamp of approval on their newest expansion effort.

Untimed parking restricted to lots

The 90 days of free parking – through Feb. 6 – in downtown Hollister is available in city parking lots only. Street parking time limits are still in effect during the “free parking” months and are being enforced. The city council approved a resolution that suspended the time limits in the city’s downtown lots for the holiday shopping season on Nov. 5. But the timed parking enforcement remains on city streets that are posted with time limits.

Shop local Saturday set for Dec. 1

More than 80 businesses in San Benito County have signed on to participate in the Holiday Cheer Shop Hop, an effort to highlight the offerings of local businesses and to offer a chance for holiday shopping without leaving the county.

Adopt Cotton

Cotton is a beautiful white kitten that are available for adoption at Pet Friends. She is a playful kitten, and loves to chase toy balls around the floor. Her mother was feral, but the kittens are people-friendly now, with the personal attention they get at Pet Friends.

SBC wildlife services shut down for year

Residents with wildlife problems – in both rural and urban parts of San Benito – no longer have county support for dealing with the pests.

Local authors to host historical book signing

Authors Joe McMahon and Peter Sonne will share a little history and personal insight on their book "Hollister," Nov. 24, from 4 to 5 p.m. at San Benito Bene, 615-B San Benito St., with a Q&A and book signing to follow the talk. The book is part of Arcadia Publishing's "Images of America" series and it was published this fall. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Supervisors seek cost proposal for landfill landscaping

The views around the John Smith Landfill may get greener in the future as county supervisors have directed staff to see how much it would cost to put in improvements and what funding sources might be available.
