SBHS production ‘Sound of Music’ opens next week

Legislation introduced capping severance pay for superintendents

Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) today introduced Assembly Bill 280, which places a three-month cap on the severance pay of a school district superintendent. Currently, when a superintendent’s contract of employment is terminated, he or she is eligible for a severance pay of up to 18 times their monthly salary, which can potentially be very costly.

Gavilan offers writing workshops for veterans

Gavilan College is offering writing workshops by veterans, for veterans from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursdays in room SS203 on campus, located at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. in Gilroy.

San Benito High School junior Jesaiah Baer's audition for “American Idol,” which aired Jan. 30, made the list of most memorable auditions. It is a distinction that landed Baer's clip on Fox's official website for the show and gave her more airtime when her episode showed on a Wednesday evening.

Head of new Hollister charter honored in Gilroy

The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce has named Gilroy Prep Principal James Dent Educator of the Year for 2013. The honor will be presented at the Chamber's 60th Annual Spice of Life Awards dinner on Feb 9. The Spice of Life Awards are given to recipients for their volunteerism and dedication to the Gilroy community.
