The South County California Student Opportunity and Access Program known as Cal-SOAP is celebrating a decade of helping low-income and first-generation students in San Benito and South County pursue their post-secondary education.

Dual Immersion Parent Workshop

San Juan School will be having a Parent Workshop for their Dual Language Immersion Program Jan. 9, in the school’s cafeteria from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This workshop is for families currently enrolled in the K-5th grade program and for interested preschool and kindergarten families. Leading the workshop will be one of California’s leading experts on dual language education, Rosa Molina from the Association of Two-Way & Dual Language Education. Topics include the benefits of being fluent in two or more languages starting in kindergarten and what expectations parents should have for their children acquiring a second language. Local gang prevention coordinator notes local bullying prevention

Hollister School District officials Friday closely followed news of the mass shooting at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School – with reports of 20 children and eight adults dead, including shooter Adam Lanza and his mother.

The Hollister School District had been billed $19,200 through October from its contracted legal firm that developed a report detailing “deficiencies” in a charter school petition, according to figures released to the Free Lance.

Hollister's Limelight Productions will open its winter children's show, “The Little Mermaid,” Friday at the Gavilan College Theater in Gilroy.

Founders of a Gilroy charter school who have their eyes set on opening a similar school in Hollister next fall were “thrilled” with the outcome of a Hollister School District board vote Tuesday offering conditional approval of the petition.
