Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away in her home at the age of 94.

A lifelong resident, Norma was born and raised in Morgan Hill. Her Grandfather, George A. Edes, came to Morgan Hill in 1892 and shortly thereafter founded the Morgan Hill Sun Times, Morgan Hill’s first newspaper and oldest continuously operating business.

Norma was raised in the house her grandfather built in 1896, which stands to this day and which remains in the family. As a family, the Edes were always very involved in their community, and from a very young age Norma followed suit. Her involvement began at the age of nine, when as the Mayor’s daughter, she was selected to present a welcoming bouquet of flowers to the Crown Prince and Princess of Sweden during their visit to the area in 1926.

In later years, she went on to become a founding member of the Morgan Hill Historical Society for which she served as its first Executive Director. Throughout her life she remained committed to the preservation of Morgan Hill’s history.

A devout Catholic and woman of deep faith, she was a lifelong member of St. Catherine Parish, and a founding member of the Reach-Out program. Ever generous with her time, her far-reaching involvement with community volunteerism earned her Morgan Hill’s Citizen of the Year Award in 1982. Norma enjoyed playing Bridge, and over the years forged many lasting and meaningful friendships through her involvement in various Bridge clubs.

In 1940, Norma married her high school sweetheart, Merle “Bill” Link, with whom she remained in a loving marriage for 65 years and by whom she was preceded in death. Norma is survived by her brother George “Buzz” Edes, and by her five children Teresa (Pedro) Caceres, Ken (Carol) Link, Bill (Marguerite) Link, Myrna (Tom) Costello, and Barry (Karin) Link. She is also survived by thirteen Grandchildren: Pedro Caceres, Carla Caceres-DeMartini, Eric Caceres, Mary Costello-Wright, Erin Costello, Brian Costello, Ken Link Jr., Danny Link, Chad Link, Tracey Link, Heather Link, Amanda Link, and Bill Link Jr., and by four great-grandchildren Simon Caceres, Owen DeMartini, Jake Wright, and Ken Link III.

The Family would like to thank Marili, Tony, and Priscilla for their loving and dedicated care of Norma during her final years.

In lieu of flowers please send donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 4, 2011, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Morgan Hill. Interment will be private.
