Officers arrest 48-year-old man after school lockdown

Hollister police and Hollister School District officials placed a local school on lockdown Thursday morning after a 48-year-old male with a felony warrant was suspected of calling Calaveras School and asking that his children be released to him.

Police first released a statement about the incident Friday morning.

According to the statement, officers received a call from Calaveras Elementary School staff members after Rey Salgado, 48, called and asked that his children be released to him. Through a records check, the officers found an active restraining order against Salgado with his children and their mother as protected parties. The officers also found a felony warrant for Salgado.

Officers said they evaluated the situation with officials from the Hollister School District when they decided to initiate a code blue lockdown for the campus. An officer stayed near campus while other officers searched known addresses for the suspect.

In the statement, officers said they found Salgado in a truck in the 1500 block of Nash Road, where they placed him under arrest for the felony warrant. In a routine search of the vehicle, police reported finding a small amount of a controlled substance.

Salgado was booked on suspected charges that include assault with a deadly weapon, terrorist threats, possession of a controlled substance and domestic violence, with a total bail of $170,000.
