The Hollister Airshow has been “effectively” canceled, according to Airport Director Mike Chambless.

At the end of November, council members reached a 2-2 stalemate on the future of the airshow. At the time, Mayor Ignacio Velaquez said he thought the council should give newcomer Roy Sims an opportunity to state his voice on the issue.

But Chambless said he and City Manager Bill Avera interpreted the council’s actions as canceling the airshow.

In an email to the Free Lance, Chambless said the earliest he could get an item on the agenda would’ve been Jan. 17. However, the International Council of Air Shows convention happened in early December. The convention is where everyone hires entertainers. Chambless said he had to release his preliminary agreements with entertainers because it wouldn’t be fair to keep them tied up when they could get other business.

“So with the limited budget and limited time remaining, the Airshow was effectively canceled with their vote on 12/1/16 (sic),” Chambless said.
