Editor,
There were some interesting contrasts In the August 17 Free Lance. On page A3, it was reported that District Attorney John Sarsfield criticized Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz for his position on tracking local sex offenders. On page A1, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposes lifelong tracking of sex offenders.
Then August 18, the Free Lance reports on page A3 that one sex offender in San Benito County is missing because he has moved and not reregistered.
I have mixed emotions about sex offenders. There are a lot of crazies out there and I worry about my 8-, 10- and 12-year-old grandchildren of both sexes. On the other hand, some 18 year boy with an overdose of hormones might do something dumb with juvenile girl and be branded for life.
If the decision was mine, I would come down on the side of Schwarzenegger and De La Cruz.
