Don died of natural causes at Baywood Court in Castro Valley where he had lived for the past 3 years. He is survived by his son Don A. Drake (Gail) of Castro Valley, step-daughters Kelly Garcia (Ted) of San Martin, Pamelah Stephens of San Jose, Christine Caspillo, sister Bobby Bennett (Jim) of Yulee FL, grandchildren Monica Johnson, Sean Drake, Amanda Peacock, Tosanna Alayaay, Shanna Garcia, Travis Garcia, Justin Stephens, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis Drake and first wife Novetta Parish-Drake.

A great lover of the outdoors, he lived many years in San Martin and Gilroy in the company of horses, mules and Angus cattle. He also loved to fly, and was a veteran of the Korean conflict where he served as a radioman in naval aircraft. He shared his love of the outdoors with many through his volunteer activities as Pack Master and Troop Leader for the Scouting Programs and later as a member and President of the San Martin Horseman’s Association. After his retirement from Varian Associates he enjoyed many wonderful years traveling in his RV and fishing with friends and family. A memorial luncheon is being held in San Martin, CA on Dec 19, 2010.
