Buying or selling a vehicle just got easier with the help of Pinnacle Park and Sell. Owned by Frank Ficken, it’s the only business of its kind in San Benito County.

Anyone with a vehicle to sell – whether a car, truck, motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle, watercraft or trailer – needs only to sign an agreement and pick a package, said vice president Mark Rogers.

“We have several packages available. The main one is a 45-day rental agreement,” Rogers said. “This package includes a weekly starting of the vehicle and tire check. We’ll wash the car once a week as dirty vehicles don’t sell. We’ll help with pricing of the vehicle, but these are only suggestions we give. Our customers can choose the price they want. We’ll open up the vehicle if someone wants to look inside.”

Rogers said Pinnacle Park and Sell is designed give vehicles offered for sale the maximum exposure.

“When you try to sell a vehicle on your own it gets limited exposure,” Rogers said. “None of the parking lots in town allow ‘for sale’ parking. One of the benefits of our lot is over 120,000 people drive by weekly. The Hollister Engineering Department did a traffic study in May 2000 and that’s where these statistics come from. There is also a lot of out of town traffic.”

There’s also a showroom for higher-priced vehicles, currently among them a 1933 Chevrolet five-window coupe.

“When people see a variety of vehicles on the same lot, they’re often tempted to stop and take a look,” Rogers said. “For example, someone going to Hollister Hills might be looking for one type of motorcycle. We’ll put several different kinds together which creates discussion. People make decisions based on what’s in front of them.”

In addition to helping customers sell their vehicles, Pinnacle Park and Sell offers a brokering service.

“We’re here to help people on trades,” Rogers said. “Let’s say someone commutes and has no way of parking their vehicle to try and sell it because they need to drive it every day. If this commuter is looking to buy a new vehicle and knows what they want, and hopes to base their purchase on a trade-in, we can call around and get them the best deal on whatever type of vehicle they want.”

Both buyers and sellers enjoy a measure of safety when it comes to vehicle transactions. There are seller’s packages available by which the business handles the test drives, freeing the seller from insurance worries should an accident happen during a test drive. Then there are general safety issues.

“When someone is buying or selling a car through us, it’s done on a lot in an open, safer environment,” Rogers said. “No one comes to your door or calls you at home. We’ll help with the paperwork. We make it convenient, have the item on display and keep it clean. Vehicle history reports – which show if a car has been stolen, been in a major accident or had major repairs – are available upon request. Our goal is to protect both the buyer and the seller.”
