Patty Englund of Fairfield, ID passed away in her home on July 22, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Patty spent the best and last year of her life on her ranch in the home she recently built that overlooks her cattle pastures. She grew up in Salinas, CA and spent many years in Hollister, CA. She was the daughter of Chester and Dorothy Englund.
Patty raised Quarter horses, Angus cattle and Scottish Black Face sheep. She traveled to England and Scotland with close friends where she trained Border Collies with some of the world’s top trainers. She eventually imported some of the dogs for her seed stock. Patty loved animals. She raised and cared for animals of various types throughout her life. Her most unique experience was with her mountain lion, Sarah, who she raised from a cub and enjoyed for 13 years.
Patty was always ready for an adventure and would embark on the next road trip at the drop of a hat. Her travels took her across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.
Patty graduated from Salinas High School in 1958. She attended college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where she developed her love for raising and training Quarter horses. Patty’s true passion inspired others who she was able to teach and pass on her skills to. For the past ten years she enjoyed developing and running a cattle operation with her son, Glenn.
Patty worked many years in the veterinary medical field where she owned and managed Ausaymas Veterinary Clinic. She also worked as a licensed Animal Health Technician at the Hollister Veterinary Clinic in Hollister, CA.
Patty’s favorite yearly event was her cattle branding where she loved to rope calves and enjoy her family and friends. Her generous and accepting spirit inspired many to call her their “best” friend. Patty’s five grandchildren brought true joy to her life. She had the knack for incorporating them into all parts of her adventurous life.
Patty is survived by her brother Bill Englund, two daughters Sally Welly and Joanne Koch and her son Glenn Koch, their spouses Pete Welly, Bryan Connell and Donna Koch and her five grandchildren: Leane and Bryan Welly, Lindsey Connell, Brenn and Wyatt Koch.
