Peggy Anne Ashford long-time downtown business owner, passed away peacefully on July 18th, 2012, at her home in Gilroy at the age of 81. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.

Peggy is survived by her three sons, five grandchildren, and five (soon to be seven) great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Ashford.

Peggy was a Downtown Gilroy institution, running Western Auto with her husband for over 35 years before converting the space into Ashford’s Heirlooms in 1991.

She enjoyed occasional day trips with friends, but working in the store was her labor of love closest to her heart. Even as her mobility declined in recent months, she never considered retirement and always hoped to return to the store.

Her grandchildren all fondly remember growing up on the sales floor of the store, learning how to use the cash register and how to properly answer a business call. Peggy stands as a shining example of how to treat friends like family and family like friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. with a reception immediately following at 500 West Tenth Street.
