Peter Allemand died on June 11, 2004.
Born in San Juan Bautista on June 20, 1913, Peter was raised and
lived in Gilroy for the past 87 years. He attended Rucker, St.
Mary’s and Gilroy High School.

Born in San Juan Bautista on June 20, 1913, Peter was raised and lived in Gilroy for the past 87 years. He attended Rucker, St. Mary’s and Gilroy High School.

Peter first served as a Sergeant in Company B of the 184th Infantry in the National Guard then was called to duty during WWII where he received a battled field commission to First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army and received two bronze stars. After WWII, Peter served in the Army reserves and worked his way up through the ranks to Lt. Colonel.

He enjoyed dancing and joined the Gilroy Gliders and Morgan Hill High Steppers folk and square dance clubs. Peter later served as a member of the Board of Education with the Rucker School District from 1959 – 1965 and also the Gilroy Unified School District from 1967 – 1988 where he was President from 1973 – 1975.

During his lifetime Peter was a rancher raising chickens, sheep and growing prunes.

He was the brother to the late Gerald Allemand and Josephine Howes.

He is survived by his cousin Francis Howson; brother-in-law Robert Howes; nieces and nephews; and many grand nieces and grand nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 15 from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Gilroy with Mass beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.

Arrangements were made by Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. The family would appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society.
