There will be a celebration of Peter’s life in the New Year. Donations may be made to Colon Cancer Research, In Memory of Peter H. Harrison.
Peter Henry Harrison, 70, passed away  Sunday, November 24th, 2013, at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula due to complications of cancer.  He was born to Edmund P. and Mary K. Harrison in August, 1943, and lived his early years on a farm in the Santa Ynez Valley. Shortly after high school graduation, Peter served a four-year term in the U.S. Navy where he was trained as an electronics technician.
Post Navy, Peter graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Peter and some friends then started the Cigar Factory Restaurant in San Luis Obispo where he met his future bride, Gretchen (Leutz) Romo.
After the successful restaurant venture Peter, Gretchen, and step-son Garet moved to Sebastopol where their son Learner (Toby) was born. The family then moved to Washington State where Peter farmed for several years.
After his first marriage, Peter moved back to California and met his second wife, Tina Borkman. They lived in Hollister where he managed a working ranch and eventually started employment for Dassel’s Petroleum. After his divorce from Tina and retirement from Dassel’s, Peter moved to Carrisa Plains where he renewed his love of farming.
In 2006, Peter purchased land Northwest of San Miguel; he recently finished construction of a home on the property. He was enthused about green energy; the whole house is powered by solar.
Peter was a driven man and always took the time to read and learn about new interests. He had a lifelong passion for cooking and enjoying great food, hiking, traveling, and friendship. He loved being on the ocean–be it in a navy ship, cruise ship, or smaller vessel.
Peter’s many friends are saddened by his passing. He is survived by his son Toby of Atascadero, step-son Garet Romo of Wenatchee, WA, his brothers: Edmund Pitts (Carolyn) of San Miguel, Joseph of San Diego, William (Karen) of Bigfork, MT and his fiancé, Judy of Monterey.
