Peter Miles Russell passed away peacefully with his children by his side in San Jose, CA. He was 53 years old.

Pete was born and raised in San Francisco, CA where he graduated from Mission High school in 1972. He lettered in varsity baseball for 3 years. He married Elizabeth D. Winch in 1975 (divorced). He was preceded in death by his sister Patricia K. Russell of San Francisco, CA (March 1998) and Theresa L. Castro of Citrus Heights, California (October 2001). He is survived by his 2 children Jason M. Russell and Janell M. Russell of Hollister, CA and his older brother Timothy N. Shay who resides in New Zealand as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws.

In Pete’s life he enjoyed many activities such as softball, bowling, racquetball, walking, listening to music and trips to Bills Bullpen. Pete was a proud father who thoroughly enjoyed attending his son’s baseball and football games and karate tournaments. He was especially proud of attending his daughters many dance competitions and recitals. Pete was a devoted fan of the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers and Central Coast Barnstormers.

Pete would like to be remembered as a proud devoted father, a loving supportive brother, a generous uncle and a wonderful friend. To those who knew him, he will be remembered as a man who always looked for the brighter things in life, no matter what life dealt him.

In the latter part of his life Pete suffered numerous strokes and other ailments never once feeling sorry for himself, or having a bad attitude. Pete was an example of how we should all live our lives.

We were all proud to have known you Dad. May you rest in peace.

A celebration of Pete’s life is scheduled for Saturday, February 21st at the First Presbyterian Church at 2066 San Benito St. in Hollister, CA, starting at 1:00 P.M. Appetizers and a late lunch will follow. Please wear Hawaiian attire or dress casual. Anyone who knew Pete is highly encouraged to attend and celebrate his life.
