Placido C. Nunez died Friday. He was 78.

A native of Zacatecas, Mexico, Mr. Nunez had lived in San Benito County for more than 50 years. Before his retirement, he worked for Gilroy Foods and was a member of the teamsters union. He married his wife, Oliva, in 1960 in Palos Blanco, Guerrero, Mexico.

Mr. Nunez is survived by his wife Oliva Nunez of Hollister; his children and their spouses Gabriel and Rosa Nunez, Sarah and Eliu Perez, Elias and Sylvia Nunez, Margaret and Felipe Ornelas, Maria and Javier Valdovinos, Placido Jr. and Leticia Nunez and Felipe Nunez, all of Hollister; sister Ramona Bowdon of Vista, and his grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and officiated by Andrew Rogers.

Arrangements and cremation are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral HOme and Gavilan Hills Crematory. A private family burial is planned.
