Hollister police arrested a suspected gang member Friday after a brief chase involving the man on a bicycle.
According to the Hollister police statement released Wednesday:
On April 24, the Hollister Police Department arrested a gang member on weapons and resisting arrest charges after a short struggle.
Officer Luis Toribio was on patrol when he noticed a man riding a bicycle veering in and out of traffic and violating other vehicle code laws.
Officer Toribio attempted an enforcement stop on the man but the man sped away into the apartment complex located at the intersection of Valley View Road and Sunnyslope Road.
Officer Robert Hernandez also arrived on scene and located the suspect in the rear alley of 1570 Valley View Road. The man again rode away without stopping until Officer Toribio stopped him as he exited the complex on Valley View Road.
Instead of complying with officers, the man, age 30 and out of the Gilroy area, actively and violently resisted arrest and tried repeatedly to escape from officers. The struggle lasted for approximately one minute until the suspect stopped resisting and he was placed under arrest. A search of his person revealed a concealed large fixed blade knife in his pocket.
The suspect was transported to the San Benito County Jail where he was booked for the possession of the concealed knife and resisting and delaying arrest. He was also identified as a gang member out of the Gilroy area.
