Hollister – The suspect in a gang-related stabbing that occurred in August was arrested by Hollister police Saturday for attempted murder, police said.

Francisco Colmenero, 29, was arrested on a felony attempted murder warrant in the 600 block of Fourth Street at 3:10pm on Saturday, said police spokesman George Ramirez.

Police received a call that Colmenero was at a residence on Fourth Street and arrested him without any resistance, Ramirez said.

“I personally am not aware of his specific gang ties, but our investigators have enough information to classify it as a gang case,” Ramirez said.

Colmenero was identified by witnesses as the assailant in the stabbing of a 30-year-old Hollister man on Aug. 29 in the 1000 block of Sherwood Drive, Ramirez said.

Police responded to the area a little after midnight after a fight broke out at a party, Ramirez had said.

The victim was involved in the fight with numerous other men, some with present or past gang ties, Ramirez had said.

By the time police arrived, the fight was broken up, but the man was lying in the middle of the street with a one-inch stab wound to the left side of his torso, Ramirez had said.

The victim was transported to a San Jose-area hospital and has recovered from his wound, Ramirez said.

Colmenero was booked into the San Benito County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail and is still in custody, according to jail personnel.
