Hollister police have arrested a wanted attempted murder suspect believed to narrowly escape authorities in Gilroy nearly two weeks ago.
Police on Saturday arrested Larry Quiroz, 22, as one of three suspects involved in an attempted murder case on Easter in 2014 in the 800 block of Washington Street involving an adult male victim with gunshot wounds, according to the Hollister Police Department. The two other suspects from Hollister have been booked at the jail—Roy Maldonado, 19 at the time of arrest, and Blake Lopez, 21 at the time of arrest—since their capture shortly after the incident.
Authorities this past weekend arrested Quiroz on a routine welfare check at an apartment complex on Valley View Road in Hollister where they spotted and captured him, according to a statement. There was a brief struggle, and a K-9 on duty bit him to help apprehend the suspect, according to police.
Quiroz on March 10 fled from Hollister Police Department detectives at approximately 2:30 p.m. as they searched local motels. They encountered him at the Travel Inn on Monterey Road near the Highway 101 overpass, according to Gilroy police and Detective Staci Esqueda of the Hollister Police Department.
After more than three hours that day, authorities gave up an intense hunt. Search teams from at least five law enforcement agencies, some equipped with high-powered rifles, used dogs, a CHP helicopter and at least 20 vehicles to scour farm fields, wooded areas and the creek bed adjacent to and just south of the park at the Monterey Road exit from Highway 101. Gilroy, Morgan Hill and Hollister police were joined by the CHP and Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies in the hunt for him.
Look back for more.
