ARSON:

Jesus Miguel Batres, 22, of 340 Locust Ave. in Hollister, was arrested by Hollister police for arson, a felony, and being under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, after he set a blanket on fire in the bathroom of his house around 12:10pm on Monday, police said. Batres’ father put the blanket out before officers arrived, police said.

BURGLARY:

Unknown suspects broke the window of a car in the 30 block of Squire Court in Hollister sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning and stole a $40 CD player and a $150 radar detector, police said.

Unknown suspects broke into a truck in the 1600 block of Highland Drive around 2am on Thursday and stole $500 worth of tools, police said.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE:

Miguel Angel Reyes, 31, of Fresno, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol for driving under the influence, a misdemeanor, on Highway 25 at Shore Road on Wednesday at 2:57am, police said.

CAR THEFT:

Felipe Calzada Moreno, 19, of Redwood City, was arrested by the CHP for car theft and receiving stolen property, felonies, and driving without a license, a misdemeanor, during a traffic stop on Highway 25 at Shore Road on Tuesday at 10:01pm, police said.

Juan Manuel Rodriguez, 30, of Pasadena, was a passenger in Moreno’s car and was arrested for car theft and receiving stolen property, felonies, on Highway 25 at Shore Road on Tuesday at 10:01pm, police said.

INJURY TO A CHILD:

Christopher Onate Najar, 39, of 1591 Sunnyslope Rd. in Hollister, was arrested by Hollister police in the 1500 block of Sunnyslope Road at 1:56pm on Thursday for inflicting injury to a child, a felony, after he hit an 11-year-old boy with a belt, causing welts, police said.

ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON:

Lawrence Raymond Torres, 37, of 1065 Victoria Ave. in Hollister, was arrested by Hollister police for assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, after he slammed a man’s head into the cement in the 800 block of East Street at 3:48pm on Tuesday, police said. The man was treated at Hazel Hawkins Hospital for a bruise to the back of his head, police said.

All those named are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
