The Hollister Police Department has announced the appointment of its newest lieutenant, former Sgt. Eric Olson.
Olson was sworn in Monday as a lieutenant, according to a statement from the Hollister Police Department.
According to the statement from police:
Eric Olson first became a Police Officer with the Hollister Police Department in 2001. Previously to becoming an officer in Hollister, Eric served in the United States Army for four years. He served as a specialist, a truck unit commander and a squad leader in the infantry.
He has worked several different specialized duties in his career such as; UNET Task Force Agent, Field Training Officer and Detective Sergeant. Eric is also a certified firearm armorer and is currently the department’s range master. Most recently, Eric split his duties as a Patrol Sergeant and was the Training and Administrative Sergeant in charge of personnel and recruiting. He was also instrumental in writing several Office of Traffic and Safety Grants that have brought in over $300,000 in funds to the Hollister Police Department over the last few years. The grants are used for DUI and traffic law enforcement.
Eric also prepared the Hollister Police Department’s entry into the California Law Enforcement Challenge (CLEC). The California Law Enforcement Challenge is a competition between similar sizes and types of law enforcement agencies for the best traffic safety programs in California. His work resulted in Hollister Police receiving 3rd place for the state for agencies in our category in 2011 and 2nd place in 2012.
On December 30, 2013, Hollister City Clerk Geri Johnson swore in Eric Olson in a ceremony at the police department attended by family, friends and coworkers. The oath of office recited by Eric made him officially Lieutenant Eric Olson.
We would like to extend our congratulations to Lieutenant Eric Olson for this life accomplishment and we would also like to congratulate his wife and children because without our family’s support, we could not do this job.
