Two teens were arrested for having two knives and a gun in a car after police stopped their BMW sedan in north Gilroy, police said.

Gilroy officer Jose Barrera stopped the car about 11:45 p.m. Friday near Santa Teresa Boulevard and Welburn Avenue to discover three people in the vehicle who had been smoking marijuana, police said.

Barrera noticed a dagger in the vehicle, police said. Barrera then searched the vehicle and found another knife and a loaded pistol. The serial number of the pistol had been destroyed.

Barrera arrested Gilroyan Jason Fernandez, 19, and a 15-year-old, whose name and home address were not released, on suspicion of possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a firearm with obliterated serial number, and possession of concealed dangerous weapons, police said. Police did not say whether the third person was arrested.

The teens were headed in the direction of a nearby house party with gang members where a shooting took place, police said. The teenage suspects in that shooting drove right by Barrera while he was conducting this traffic stop and then took law enforcement officers on a 20-mile chase that reached speeds of 120 mph and that ended in Hollister. The two teens in that incident were arrested for attempted murder, among other bookings.
