Hollister – The Hollister Police Department recovered two stolen vehicles early Wednesday morning, but were unable to catch the thieves.

Sgt. James Egan spotted both vehicles within three hours of each other, Capt. Bob Brooks said.

Egan saw a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro stolen out of Watsonville on Valley View Road at 12:43am Wednesday, Brooks said. After driving around the block, the thief left the car running in the parking lot of an apartment complex and fled on foot, he said.

At about 3am Wednesday, Egan spotted a 1990 Honda Accord at San Benito and South streets, Brooks said. The car had been stolen on Graf Road in Hollister in late February, he said. Egan tried to pull the car over, but the driver fled northbound on San Benito Street, police said.

After exceeding 85 mph westbound on San Juan Road, the driver of the stolen Honda turned into the Mission Oaks Mobile Home Park, Brooks said. Several officers followed the car into the mobile home park, but found the Honda on Ash Lane with the doors open and the thief gone, he said.
